Industrial Linkages, Policy and IP Research Center (ILPIP-RC)

INDUSTRIAL LINKAGES, POLICY AND IP RESEARCH CENTER (ILPIP-RC)

The National Government through the Ministry of Investments, Trade and Industry (MITI) in collaboration with all County Governments initiated the County Aggregation and Industrial Parks (CAIPs) project in 2023. CAIPs will comprise of aggregation, processing and business support services. The aggregation centres will be used to collect agricultural raw materials, and undertake primary processing such as sorting, cleaning, grading and packing, and primary value addition. In addition, aggregation centres will have cold storage facilities for fresh produce storage prior to processing or sale. The processing centres will provide opportunities for investors to set-up facilities for value addition. The business parks will house support services such as administrative offices, recreational facilities and hospitality. The program aims to make farming profitable, create sustainable enterprises, generate employment opportunities, and enhance the manufacturing capacity at the county level. KIRDI is a key player in the implementation of the program because of the unique set of technical expertise and its prior success in developing consumer products, nurturing enterprises and implementing industrial incubation and common manufacturing facilities programs. CAIPS will promote production of high value-added products; connect agricultural production areas to end markets through shared infrastructure, services and modern technologies; and create backward and forward linkages for agricultural products.
