KISUMU centre is one of the campuses of Kenya Industrial Research and Development Institute (KIRDI).The center is located along Kibos Road opposite BOC gases.
The centre opened its doors of operation in July, 1991 as a pilot plant for sorghum processing. The research project was funded by International Development Research Center of Canada(IDRC). For three (3) years, IDRC funded the Technology Transfer and dissemination of sorghum and millet processing technologies to target groups in the western region of the country.
In 1995, the Centre was restructured to accommodate Research Laboratories. The Centre, however, maintained the commercial operations of the pilot plant as a business enterprise. To date, the centre has undergone tremendous transformation and specializes in a wide range of services.
