Mineral Resources Division (MRD) is one of the six (6) divisions in the Research and Development of Kenya Industrial Research and Development Institute (KIRDI). The Division is involved in the activities of the Mineral Resource sub-sections.

To develop sustainable Mineral Resources sub-sectors that are competitive through the provision of appropriate and affordable technologies.
Vision
To become a centre of reference for industrial Research and Development in the Mineral Resources Sub-sector.

Training of the small and medium scale entrepreneurs in manufacturing process for Mineral resource and related industries.

Current Projects
1. Utilization of lime sludge baggasse ash from the sugar industries for the manufacture of building materials.
2. Development of porous ceramic water filters for enhanced sanitation and hygiene.
3. Utilization of brickyard grog for the manufacture of low cost cementecious material.
4. Development and dissemination of technology for the production of low cost refractory bricks.
