Conference of A.U. Ministers of Industry (CAMI 20)

Kenya Industrial Research and Development Institute (KIRDI) participated in the exhibition and conference during the 20th Session of the conference of AU Ministers of Industry (CAMI-20) held in Kenyatta International Conference Centre (KICC) from 10th -14th June 2013. It was organized by Ministry of Industrialization and Enterprise development and hosted delegates from all over Africa union countries.  The conference was officially opened on 13th June 2013 by His Excellency Hon. Uhuru Kenyatta, C.G.H., President And Commander-In-Chief of the Defence Forces of the Republic of Kenya who toured the exhibition stands before proceeding to officially open the conference.

KIRDI was among the parastatals under the Ministry Of Industrialization and Enterprise Development visited by His Excellency the President, showcasing various technologies including: Gasifier stoves, food technologies in value addition, Archwelding machines and chemical engineering technologies.

2013 Nairobi Trade Fair (ASK Show)

This 2013 Agricultural Society of Kenya (ASK) Nairobi International Trade Fair (NITF) was held as from 30th September 2013 to 6th October 2013 at Jamhuri Park Show Grounds in Nairobi Kenya. The NITF is an annual event organized by ASK that attracts exhibitors and visitors from Kenya and many other countries including; China, India, Pakistan among others.

KIRDI exhibited various technologies and innovations at it's stand during the fair. The exhibits included a wide array of technologies in agriculture and industry for food security and national growth and captured Research, Technology and Innovation undertaken by KIRDI that are ready for uptake by Manufacturing in the following fields: 

- Fruits and vegetable processing
- Baking technologies
- Food Oleoresins
- Bee and Hive products
- Mushroom Technologies- Environmental protection technologies
- Ceramics and Building materials technologies
- Renewable energy technologies
- ICT educational instruments
- Leather Development and allied products
- Laboratory Services
- Engineering Development Services

Information regarding capacity building in various technologies was also available.

Kenya Climate Innovation Center at 2013 NITF

The Kenya Climate Innovation Center facilitated eight clients to participate in the Nairobi International trade fair 2013. The forum enables the clients and CIC to create awareness of its services and also to strengthen its business relations with various stakeholders.  

The Kenya Climate Innovation Center would like to thank the Industrial Commercial Development Corporation (ICDC) and Kenya Industrial Research Institute (KIRDI) for accepting to host this clients. In addition we would like to acknowledge the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries for hosting Mineral Allied who specializes in hydroponic farming. 

KIRDI hosted Skynotch and Sunny People who specializes in solar for off grid solutions. In addition ICDC hosted Fairbrooks producing water purification systems, Stamp in improved cookstoves, and Kenya Biologics who are specializing in bio-pesticides. two of CIC clients participated at individual capacity and this included Consumer Choice limited and Sunculture.

KIRDI participation in the 2013 Lead Poisoning Awareness

KIRDI is mandated to carry out research and development, consultancy work for industries, community organizations, and government among others. The institute disseminates research findings to the stakeholders and the general public aimed at offering solution in line with the country’s Vision 2030.

It is in this context that KIRDI is participating in the Lead poisoning Awareness week by organizing a one day workshop to disseminate relevant information to the general public on the same. Several event partners and sponsors have also been invited to participate either through various presentations or attendance to share their experiences and views on lead poisoning.

In Kenya. Dr. Faridah Hussein Were, a senior research scientist at KIRDI is leading the awareness campaign having been involved in lead poisoning research.

The event will be on the 23rd October 2013 at KIRDI Head Quarters, South C, popo road off Mombasa Road. This event will have wide coverage through local media, KIRDI and UNEP websites where it will be posted for wider audience.

The institute is committed to carry out relevant collaborative research on lead poisoning including the involving the stakeholders. Research findings will be disseminated to the general public including lobbying for regulatory framework on lead poisoning.

2013 Africa Industrialization Day / Kenya Industrialization Week

Theme: 'Job Creation and Entrepreneurship Development: A means to accelerate Industrialization in Africa’

Africa Industrialization Day is celebrated on 20th November each year. It has initially been organized by UNIDO but is currently under African Union (AU) coordination and Ministry of Industrialization and Enterprise Development.

This is a time when governments and other organizations in many African countries examine ways to stimulate Africa's industrialization process. It is also an occasion to draw worldwide media attention to the problems and challenges of industrialization in Africa. This year’s celebrations will take place from 18th – 22nd November at Kenyatta International Conference Center (KICC), Nairobi.

There will be conference presentations at the Amphitheatre focusing on priority sectors like leather and leather products, textile and clothing, furniture and access to affordable finance by SMEs. Exhibition will run concurrently with the conference at the KICC courtyard. KIRDI will be exhibiting technologies and innovations on the priority sectors alongside other state corporations under the ministry, focusing on the Small and Medium Enterprises.
